BBC appoints Tony Hall as director general

Chief executive of the Royal Opera House, Lord Tony Hall, has been appointed the BBC's new director general.

The former director of news at the corporation takes up the £450k per year post, currently occupied by acting director general Tim Davie, in March next year.
